On November 4, 2025, the government of Canada published its Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration. The report highlights key data regarding Canadian immigration from the preceding year. On the same day, the federal government also presented its proposed budget for immigration as part of its budget plan for 2026-2028. 

For over a decade, a restrictive rule—the “first-generation limit”—has prevented many Canadians from passing their citizenship to children born abroad. This barrier has now been removed, opening the door for many individuals to pass on their Canadian citizenship to their descendants.

The Quebec Government has announced that the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) will be reopened as of January 1, 2024.

One of the requirements to come to Canada as a foreign national is to be admissible to Canada. This is the case for a foreign national who is simply seeking entry to Canada as a tourist or business visitor as it is for a foreign national who is applying for a Canadian work permit, study permit, or applying for Canadian permanent residence.
